Designing and building the stand for Halberd.com was a new and exciting challenge and one of the most satisfying projects I have worked on.

This was a project that went from simple "Napkin Sketches" to an incredibly solid unique exhibition stand for Insomnia i61
After the initial concepts were laid down and the vision realised I started on technical drawings and 3D renders to better visualise the space. Working to best utilise the space purchased at these events was immediately the priority. How much content and display can be packed into this space without being cluttered and still being a strong stand physically? My experience in exhibitions helped me develop a concept that would be a quick build and utilise mostly stock items held by most exhibition companies. With the only majorly bespoke elements needing to be built from scratch being the crenellations.
Ensuring a real timeline of the build and all elements of it was key to ensuring a concise and approved Risk Assessment & Method Statement to hand over to the event organisers. I liaised/project managed between the joiners/decorators, event staff/organisers and halberd as the client. I also assisted in the construction of some of the more bespoke elements such as the crenellations, shelves and walling.
Upon arrival on the build day snags were hit immediately, with the event organisers for the national exhibition centre placing our power junction box in the wrong place for the stand and not installing the requested and paid for internet. I was first on site resolved all the issues and secured my client a discount on the space for the trouble.
The build team were incredibly efficient and the stand took no time at all to erect, giving plenty of time to fix any potential build snags and give the client plenty of time to build their desks for the event with as much space as possible. The stand passed all architectural tests and was approved in moments.
The initial designs had room to add two 42inch Screens in the side wall - Pointing directly at the Yogscast signing stand the intention was to play looped marketing videos on the most active side of the stand. However the client scrapped this idea and opted for a simpler, cheaper solid wall as per the rest of the stand space.
Foamex graphics were applied once the build was complete all power routed to the appropriate areas and lighting all set up with hours to spare before the hall closed.
The show itself went incredibly well, Alienware loaned PC's and monitors to the stand space and Overwatch tournaments were set up. We took turns to challenge on-comers and the stand had a huge footfall the entire weekend.
I cannot speak for how much business was gained from the event but the level of enquiries and networking that occurred was phenomenal. I can safely say that the stand design, theme and presence had the desired effect on the consumers at the event.
As exhausting as the sales pitches, chatting and networking can be at these events I incredibly enjoyed the experience. Learned a lot, and look forward to similar projects in the future.
